As long as I have a spare 2 minutes, I should throw out a couple of congrats:

Congrats to J-dub, goin' out to Tech this weekend for a bike race. You've got guts, man, I don't know if I could pull out that race (although I don't have a bike either)!

Congrats to Liz, on an awesome Women's Chorus concert today! Last ever! Getting recognized with the other 4th years....

Congrats to Laura & Alex (two people in my acting class) for an awesome job with FYP tonight!

Today, I played with about 25 or so other members of marching band next year...we played pregame at the Stadium for the spring football game/scrimmage. It was a lot of fun; I could actually get up a little bit later on a Saturday (9:00) than I have the past couple of weeks (any time between 4 and 7 the past few weeks). I've got a good feeling about this....the crowd in the parking lot enjoyed us a lot! Afterwards we had a delivery of about 20 pizzas! Wow! When Pease said that he was going to feed us, he meant it!

I know I haven't made an entry in a while, I'm just too busy. It's scary when every second you take that you don't do any work, you realize you're getting further behind. Just waiting for the semester to be done...my body is really starting to reject my attempts to keep going...I don't know how many 3 AM'ers I have left in me. Just trying to hold on amidst many slippery situations.

On a lighter note: some random quotes of the week
At the Wesley dinner, looking at a photograph taken of Bethany's hand: "So, you're planning to be a hand model, huh? [Bethany smiles] Well, you know you're just limiting yourself if you do that!"

We got certificates for the work we did in Yuma. Someone misprinted my name on my certificate, saying I was "Edward Jeter". My thinking: "Well, that's like the ultimate insult to a Red Sox fan!" Andrew's response: "Maybe it's implying that you should switch sides!"

Getting fitted for my band uniform: I tell the fitter I'm from Wilmington, and he was too! Then he says to Pease, "Hey, here's a guy who knows what he's doing!" :-P Yay, Brandywine's got a reputation even down in HooVille!

  • The best friends in the world

Well, I did it: I ran in the Charlottesville 10 Miler. I called up the organization on Thursday and they said that I was in the race. (Finally, I can stop being mad at the post office.) Wow, what a day. You couldn't get much better weather for a race; it was cloudy and cool, but not muggy; an occasional spritzer of rain. Brian and I ran in it together, and it was one heck of a ride. We started out the race in the center of the pack of people at the starting line (there were over 1800 people in the race, by the way; I was number 1858), and it took us a while to get moving. The race started at U-hall, went down alderman to the stadium, along stadium road and back to McCormick, then went out to Rugby Road, then out to Preston, then downtown, then back again. Hilly? Well, there were a couple big hills, but it wasn't too bad. Although the ones near the end of the race sure felt a lot tougher than those at the beginning.
It's too bad Brian's graduating this year, we'd make a really good racing duo. He's a really motivational guy. We told each other that regardless of what happened during the race, we'd meet each other at the finish line. Once we hit Stadium Road, Brian started speeding up, faster than I normally run at. I was thinking, "Holy cow, this is the guy's pace? I can't keep up with that!" Although somehow, I managed to stay within about 50 feet of him for the first several miles, catching up to him whenever there was a downhill. When we hit the chapel, Caroline was waiting for us and she hi-fived us! :-) Also, the pep band was playing, which is certainly motivational. After that point, we hit Rugby; beyond that, it was some foreign running territory to me. At that point, we had gone 3 miles, and up until Rugby was the only part of the race that I had practiced beforehand. Still, I kept pushing myself, trying to keep up with Brian..I never would have tried to go that fast if he wasn't there. I wanted to try to stay with him for at least the first 5 miles, since I had trained doing 5 miles on the treadmill before. We hit the downtown mall, and there were a lot of people cheering for all the runners. When your body keeps saying it doesn't want to go any further, it's motivation from the crowd and all the other runners around you that keep you going. Although, there were people throughout the race that were cheering for us; it was great. At about the 6 mile mark, there was a huge banner that said "Runners left lane, Doughnut eaters to the right". When I crossed that sign, the guy that was next to me said, "Homer Simpson would be proud!" At that point, I had passed Brian, although my legs were really tired at that point (foreign territory for me, since I had never trained myself for beyond 5 miles), and I really slowed down a lot. Although Brian says that it was just the reverse situation of the first half of the race; he kept going, trying to keep up with me. Granted, I wasn't going very fast; I sort of just sputtered along for the next few miles.
Anyway, between the two of us trying to keep up with each other, the music from the band and music from several other places along the race, we kept going, and we both got done in just under 80 minutes! (I doubt I'll ever be able to do this again that fast) Wow! I never would have thought we were going that fast; my goal when I first entered was to do it under 2 hours; at the beginning of the race, I was hoping to do it in under 100 minutes. Now, our time wasn't even close to the person that won the whole thing, but I don't care; I was just in it to finish! Wow...10 miles in 78+ minutes....Wow. Brian says he's passing on the "iron man" torch to me...I don't know about that; he's always gonna be the iron man. As you can probably imagine, my legs are really sore as I'm writing this, despite how much we both stretched before and after the race.
Will, Caroline, Sasha, and Missy were waiting for us at the finish line. Initially, I wasn't too thrilled about them all waiting for me, 'cause I thought it would just be more pressure on myself. Although I was really glad to see them at the finish line; it's really great to know they care!
The one damper on the race was that I was locked out of my apartment when I got back; I left my keys in the apartment since I was afraid they might fall out of my pocket. Oh well...still one heck of a race. I told Brian and Caroline that I'm gonna make sure they come back next year so we can all run in it together! Well, ok, so it probably won't happen, but you never know... :-)

First of all, if you're visiting on 4/2 or 4/3, come see SOTL's Romeo and Juliet! Performing at 8 PM at the SAB! Yeah web advertising! We had the first show last night, and it kicked some serious a$$!

Well, ISIS now confirms it...I am a math major. I'm cutting it pretty close to as late as I could possibly declare, but I did it. I am no longer an "undeclared". I guess we've all gotta grow up sometime, huh? (At least in an academic sense). Let the games begin.....
